Our Story

How sukhothinz Came to Focus on Pension Matters

sukhothinz opened its doors in Bangkok's Bang Rak district with a clear intention: to work on legal matters that benefit most from careful reading, patient correspondence, and documented outcomes. Pension law, with its layered administrative procedures and its particular importance to older clients and their families, became the natural focus.

The practice takes its name from Thailand's old capital — a place associated with considered craftsmanship and enduring form. That association shapes how we approach our work. We do not rush applications. We do not compress complex entitlement questions into a brief summary. We read the records, identify what is present and what is absent, and advise in plain written language that the client can retain and refer to.

Over the years, the practice has developed particular fluency in three areas: eligibility verification, increase applications, and estate-connected claims. Each of these requires a different kind of attention, and each produces a written record that clients find useful regardless of whether further action follows.

Clients who come to us are often managing a matter that has already involved some complexity — a pension that seems lower than expected, an entitlement period that was missed, or the death of a family member whose pension affairs remain unresolved. We approach each of these situations calmly and without pressure, because that is the approach that produces accurate, durable outcomes.

Our Mission

To give each pension matter the time and legal attention it deserves, producing written outcomes that clients can rely on and act from.

Our Values

Precision over speed. Plain language over legal abstraction. Written records over verbal assurances. Respect for the client's position at every stage.

Our Approach

We match our tempo to the client's situation. Complex matters receive more time. Simpler verifications are completed efficiently. The pace is always appropriate, never imposed.

The Team

The People Behind the Work

Each file at sukhothinz is handled by a qualified practitioner. The team is small by design, so that senior attention is present throughout each engagement.

Standards

How We Maintain the Quality of Our Work

Legal work in pension matters carries a specific duty of accuracy. These are the standards we hold ourselves to on every file.

Thai Bar Membership

All attorneys working on client files hold current membership of the Lawyers Council of Thailand. Membership is renewed annually and carries ongoing professional obligations.

Full Documentation

Every step of the engagement — letters sent, documents reviewed, decisions noted — is recorded. Clients receive copies of the documentation relevant to their matter.

Data Protection

Client information is held in compliance with Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). Records are stored securely, retained only as long as necessary, and not shared beyond the engagement.

Written Advice Standard

We do not provide final advice verbally alone. The position reached at the end of each assessment is committed to writing and provided to the client before any further step is taken.

Fee Agreement Before Work

No chargeable work begins without a written fee agreement. The figure is fixed at the outset of each service, with no mid-matter additions unless agreed in writing by both parties.

Independent File Review

Before any application is submitted, the file is reviewed by a second practitioner. This check reduces the chance of errors and confirms that the position presented is consistent with the documents held.

Expertise

Pension Legal Work in Thailand — What We Know

Pension entitlement in Thailand sits within a framework that combines the Social Security Act, the Government Pension Fund provisions, and, for certain sectors, additional occupational pension arrangements. Understanding how these interact requires not just familiarity with the legislation, but practical experience of how the relevant authorities receive and process applications.

Our team has dealt directly with the Social Security Office, the Government Pension Fund secretariat, and estate administrators handling pension components of broader inheritance files. This practical engagement means our advice reflects how the system actually operates, not only what the legislation states.

Foreign nationals and returning diaspora clients also approach us with pension matters connected to their employment history in Thailand. We can read these files, identify what may be claimable, and draft correspondence in both Thai and English as the situation requires. Working hours can accommodate clients travelling from abroad, and initial consultations can be arranged by telephone where an in-person visit is not immediately practical.

The practice covers Bangkok and the wider Central Thailand region. Estate-connected matters are managed regardless of where the estate administrator is located, as correspondence with pension authorities is conducted in writing by post and by formal submission rather than requiring repeated in-person appearances.
